Find out more about local photographer, Nicola Gough

After doing my work experience at a local paper, I was determined to become a journalist until I took media studies at college and picked up an old 35mm film camera. Photography was a hobby for a long time; I was the annoying kid who would rope their mates into posing for photoshoots and would take my camera everywhere. In and around a multitude of day jobs, I studied photography at college before dropping out, then at night school and then later enrolling for a degree as a mature student, I dropped out in year two, but I got asked to shoot my first wedding the same year and whilst it was a slow burn to build up the business, I love it, and I can't believe how lucky I am to do this job.... read more

We interview local hair and make-up artist, Gemma Howard-Masters

We interview local hair and make-up artist, Gemma Howard-Masters

I have always been very creative and leaned towards the arts during my education, I did a degree in illustration, but fine art is what I really loved. When I was at university, I started working for Estee Lauder and began to realise that make-up would let me fulfil my creative needs. I have always believed to be the best I need to train with the best. so I decided I was going to be a make-up artist. I studied at Greasepaint International School of Television, Film and Theatre Make-up in London under Julia Crutchedeon and Shauna Harrison. They were both very well respected make-up artists working in the TV, film and theatre industry. With the guidance and training in all areas they helped me to flourish and instil the values I still work to today.... read more

Find out more about local make-up artist, Kay Eaves

My Mum insisted I start looking after my skin at around eight years old saying "it's never too early to start". I remember her getting me my first lotions and potions early on. My interest in make-up and beauty followed suit. I mean, who didn't love Barry M's pigments hey? From around age 10, I was bullied. I was an easy target because I lacked confidence, especially in my looks. I was a tomboy, with big frizzy hair and all the nasty comments really stuck with me throughout my teen years. I would never wish anyone to feel as low as I did, so the idea of helping people to look and feel great about themselves became something I wanted to do in some way, shape or form. It was whilst working in the beauty retail sector that my love for beauty truly ignited. I became the in-store beauty, fragrance, and skincare specialist.... read more

We interview local bridal boutique, Ava May Bridal

Ava May Bridal was set up in 2019, so we are still a very young business! My first job when I was 15 was as a bridal consultant, and I dreamt of owning my own shop since then - not that I ever thought it would happen though! However, fate intervened, and I got the opportunity in July 2019 to buy a run-down shop, so I jumped at the chance. I decided to reinvent the shop with a makeover and name change, and Ava May Bridal was born. The shop is named after my two daughters - Ava and Esme and they love it almost as much as I do. We haven't had the easiest first 18 months between Brexit and Covid, but we have survived and plan to expand - so I think we've done pretty well considering! We are extremely proud to be one of very few stockists of the official Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Collection. We also stock Sophia Tolli, Blue by Enzoani, Pronovias, Jennifer Wren, Romantica, Pure Bridal and one of my favourites - a very boho-inspired range from Wilderly by Allure.... read more

We interview local wedding photographer, Robyn Francesca

I've always had a strong passion for photography from an early age, flicking through the books of famous photographers such as Marc Hom, Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz. After graduating from Art College, it was ever more apparent to me that a photography career was the way forward. There are three wedding packages that I offer to my clients that range in price and specification. I can cater to any of my couples' needs and am open to suggestions of how you'd like your special day documented. There are many aspects of planning a wedding that are incredibly stressful, so I make sure the process of booking myself as the wedding photographer runs super smooth. I feel I have a very calming presence and like to put my future bride and groom at ease when speaking with me.... read more

Martha and Daniel planned their big day at Macdonald Ansty Hall in just six weeks

Martha and Daniel met at a pub in Meriden. "Since that first meeting, we've been inseparable," says Martha. "We met up every day following our first date and found we had lots in common. We love rugby, with Dan supporting Wasps RFC and me supporting Exeter Chiefs, so we spent our third date at a local game." Daniel popped the question during a trip to Rhodes for Martha's birthday. "The day before my birthday we went quad biking and planned to drive down to Lindos, but it was so hot, and the bike was quite slow, so we didn't make it," shares the bride. "Dan then suggested we go back out in the evening, which I thought was strange but went along with it. We went to Kallithea Beach and found a cliff you could climb up, so we made our way to the top to watch the sunset.... read more

How to incorporate colour into your wedding dress

Here at TDR-Bridal Birmingham, we love a splash of colour! Many dresses come with colour options, so if you find a design you love, check if there's a way of incorporating your chosen hue into the design. How to incorporate wintry hues into your bridesmaids’ hair and make-up

How to incorporate wintry hues into your bridesmaids’ hair and make-up

I love a Christmas wedding, especially if the weather is on your side. The most important thing is to take care of your hair before your wedding. This is especially important in the colder months as the winter air can make it look dry and a little dull. I always offer my clients a deep conditioning treatment and shine to make the locks look glossy and healthy. With the potential for rain, snow or sleet – or even the wind messing up your bridesmaids' hair, I always recommend an up do. This will stay in place and hold any decorative items regardless of the weather.... read more

Paws for thought – why having a ‘pet-nuptial’ agreement is the ultimate preparation

Paws for thought – why having a ‘pet-nuptial’ agreement is the ultimate preparation

Couples who have adopted a pet during the pandemic can save themselves the unnecessary heartache of losing shared pets by arranging a 'pet-nuptial' agreement in case – obviously here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we truly hope it's not the case – of future separation with their partner. For custody of furry friends, there is currently no official legally binding measures in place for what happens to pets after a breakup. Legally a pet is seen as an asset, and as with any assets in a divorce, ownership will be decided by the court - however having a prearranged agreement in place, commonly known as a prenuptial agreement, can assist the court to make a decision.... read more
