Amy and Daniel had a seasonal celebration at the grand Ettington Park Hotel

Amy and Daniel had a seasonal celebration at the grand Ettington Park Hotel

Amy and Daniel met through a mutual friend at university. "We quickly felt an authentic connection and could see each other for who we really were," says Amy. "We got engaged on New Year's Eve while on a crisp winter walk. When we reached the top of a hill that overlooked the beautiful countryside, Daniel got down on one knee and proposed. He chose a Canadian gold diamond ring for his Canadian girl. After getting engaged, we also had a traditional betrothal ceremony in Canada which was a beautiful experience and a great opportunity to practice saying some mini-vows in preparation for the real deal."... read more

I do, I do, I do... with a prenuptial agreement in place!

Not just reserved for celebrities and millionaires, prenuptial agreements are becoming increasingly popular with modern couples too, no matter their financial status. With the uncertainty 2020 has brought to the economic and employment market, it can only be seen as a positive step to raise awareness of the importance of prenuptial agreements and eliminate the stigma surrounding them. Millennials, in particular, need to be made aware of the significance of prenups, as they aren't necessarily something to be viewed negatively or avoided, it's simply a sensible way to protect yourself and your finances.... read more

The road map to freedom.... and weddings!

The road map to freedom.... and weddings!

Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ yesterday, as we waited with bated breath to hear what Boris Johnson had to say in his announcement, our biggest concern was that he wouldn't address the wedding and events sector at all in his initial proposals for the coming months. One big exhale later, and we were delighted that we had SOMETHING we can start shouting about and we're certainly here to be the ones to do it - yipee!... read more

Getting married? Make sure you debunk your mortgage before tying the knot

Getting married? Make sure you debunk your mortgage before tying the knot

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes...... a mortgage! Yes, it may not sound that romantic, but owning your own home is high on the agenda for many nearlyweds-to-be. While wedding plans may be top of the list, lots of couples picture themselves settling into married life in the comfort of their perfect home without always considering the complexities that need some thought before achieving homeownership – such as being self-employed, having bad credit or being a single parent. Applying for a mortgage can feel like information overload, and hard to separate the facts from fiction. There are many misconceptions around mortgage lending, which can be harmful as many people are left feeling insecure about their financial situation. To help couples navigate the word of mortgages, Paul Coss, Co-Founder of Haysto, has debunked five common myths:... read more

Be inspired by this gorgeous shoot at The Lion Ballroom

Be inspired by this gorgeous shoot at The Lion Ballroom

Agroup of local suppliers worked together to create this boho-themed shoot at the impressive Lion Ballroom. Lynee Jessett from Lynne Jessett Floristry tells us: "The inspiration came from lots of greenery and having to think outside the box. I wanted to create something quirky to complement the gorgeous dress and not become a wallflower and melt into the background. I thought about texture and used grass and long drapes of amaranthus with a pop of deep wine now and then. We wanted to take full advantage of the regency look of The Lion Ballroom and had envisioned a mixture of boho and Pride and Prejudice. What would the marriage of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy look like in the 21st century? We managed to create two looks that complemented each other while still looking warm and inviting."... read more

How to find the right photographer for you

How to find the right photographer for you

Picking your wedding photographer is an important decision. There are thousands of suppliers in the UK, so how do you make the right decision for you? I've put together my top tips: Style – A professional photographer will have developed a style so look for a supplier who matches what you want. For example, I work with a fine art approach, seamlessly combining photojournalism and lifestyle portraiture. Experience – Weddings are very different to a fashion or styled shoot, they're often fast-paced and require a photographer to think on their feet, to have observed the art of seeing and being able to react to those moments in an instant.... read more

Planning a post-Covid wedding

Planning a post-Covid wedding

In lockdown 3.0 most of us would be hard pushed to remember a time when we could plan a wedding without having to consider the necessary social restrictions. Usual headaches like seating plans and flowers seem minor in comparison to having to contend with whether The Big Day can even go ahead or how the guest list can be reduced enough to comply. Even with the initial successes of the vaccine rollout, we're all still facing a long road ahead, before we can get back to normality.... read more

Government announcement – what we need to happen

Government announcement – what we need to happen

With less than a week to go until Monday the 22nd February, the whole wedding industry waits on Boris Johnson's announcement to outline the roadmap out of lockdown. Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we have completely and whole-heartedly empathised with the whole of our wedding community, from the couples who have had to postponed their weddings on multiple occasions, to the businesses that have had to adapt to new restrictions and regulations to overcome such dire prospects in the last year. The UK wedding industry normally hosts 20 million wedding guests and 252,000 weddings every year, worth more than £10billion to Britain's economy. Unbelievably despite these astronomical figures, many wedding industry professionals have had little if any support from government financial schemes over the course of the last year.... read more

Alice and Nick had to move their wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions but still had the perfect day

Alice and Nick had to move their wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions but still had the perfect day

Alice and Nick met 11 years ago in sixth form. "We had the same friendship group, so we spent a bit of time together," says Alice. "After some help from our friends, we decided to start dating." Nick proposed during a trip to New York City. "We were in a restaurant called The View Restaurant & Lounge on the final evening," shares the bride. "It overlooks Times Square, and as you eat, it rotates so that you get a 360-degree view of the city. We had always wanted to go but never had the funds, so we began saving not long after we'd bought our first house together. I thought maybe we would get engaged, but he threw me off completely by saying he thought proposing in New York was a cliché.... read more

How to choose the right foundation for your skin type

How to choose the right foundation for your skin type

Picking a foundation is hard as it comes in countless shades and formulas. If you have oily skin, use a powder foundation or an oil- free liquid version. These contain powders that absorb oil, leaving you with a smooth, matte finish. Mineral foundations also work well because the dry particles tend to absorb moisture and prevent any shine. Alternatively, if you have combination skin which is oily in some places and dry in others, then you may have a tougher job finding something to suit. I recommend mixing foundations to create a product that suits your needs. Those of you who have sensitive skin or struggle with acne, it's best to avoid certain ingredients that can irritate your skin such as alcohol and fragrance based products.... read more
