DoveLetters is a new wedding gift business set up in response to guests being asked for money towards a couple's honeymoon rather than physical wedding gifts.
Coowner Vicky Hunter explains, "DoveLetters is a new wedding gift business that my boyfriend and I set up in response to the increasing number of friends asking for money towards their honeymoon rather than physical wedding gifts.
"We don't feel that the cash we can give equates to the amount we care about our friends and a simple bank transaction feels sterile and meaningless.
"We've mixed old fashioned concepts like a guestbook and the romanticism of post, with modern technology, to provide a meaningful and unique wedding gift.
"Our friends got married in Italy last year. They already lived together so didn't need physical gifts to help set up a home as is tradition; they simply asked for financial contributions towards their honeymoon. The bride is one of the best friends of my partner Manuel so we decided to do something extra, something a little more meaningful. We bought and handed out some beautiful postcards all pre-filled with address and a date indicating when the postcard should be delivered.
"The hope was that wedding guests would write their memories of the wedding (like a guestbook) and send the postcards at the allotted time meaning the newlyweds would receive a card a week for almost a year! The reality was that a lot of the postcards were lost or forgotten about, but it got us thinking...
"We have both worked within the tech startup sector and felt we could build a much slicker version of our idea. Not only could we use email reminders to prompt guests but they could easily upload a photo they had personally taken at the wedding which would become the front of the postcard, plus we could automate a regular delivery.
"DoveLetters sends high-quality photo postcards with personal messaging from friends and family, through the post, once a week for ten weeks after the wedding. This cures the post-wedding blues and fills the gap between the big day and the arrival of the professional photography."
The couple exhibited DoveLetters at a wedding fair last weekend and were overwhelmed by the number of people interested; even other exhibitors wanted to know more and were impressed by the original idea.
