We interviewed Anne Whysall from Anne Whysall Florist to find out more about her company.
Q – Tell us about your company.
We're a Shropshire-based florist that recently moved from a retail shop to a large studio, giving us more space and flexibility to focus on weddings and workshops. My name is Anne, and I'm the co-owner of the business with my husband, Jamie, who works full time separately and helps out when he can.
We're a small but experienced and passionate team of three florists, myself, Thea and Sophie, and we work really well together. Anne Whysall Florist has been open for six years, but together we accrue over 25 years of experience.
The business has contracts with several local wedding venues, and we travel all over the West Midlands delivering our wedding flowers. Anne Whysall Florist has won The Wedding Industry Awards West Midland regional prize twice now, and I have won a Silver medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
I honestly believe that our passion and love for what we do is translated into our work, meaning every wedding we make is that bit more special.
Q – What packages do you offer couples?
We don’t really offer any packages as flowers are such a varied and personal element, some couples only want bridal party flowers while others want the whole works. We don’t have a minimum spend and offer no-obligation quotes to couples following a consultation.
Q – What should couples expect when booking your services?
Couples should expect our guidance and support from the first meeting at the initial consultation right through to the delivery on the day. Most of our couples know only a small amount about flowers, so they look to us to give sound, honest advice about what will be best to make their vision become reality. We have full transparency with our quoting and pride ourselves on the quality products we work with. A couple can book as many appointments with us as they wish and can stay in correspondence via email or phone as much as they like to.
Q – How long before the wedding should couples get in touch?
I would recommend a year, couples can book the date before that following an initial consultation and then come for a follow-up consultation during the month/season of their wedding for the following year, that way they can see and smell some of the seasonal flowers available.
Q – What's your favourite part of the job?
For me, it’s creating the different flower and foliage combinations, putting together different colours, textures and fragrances. I love how different each wedding can be even if a couple picks a similar colour palette, with a slight change to the combination, it can take on a whole new life.
Q – Do you have any top tips for couples planning their weddings?
My top tip would be to try and go with an open mind, take inspiration images, of course, and a colour palette but then let the professional make recommendations. We know what flowers are the best quality for your season and what designs will make the most impact within your budget.
