Birmingham-based wedding stationery designer Parvi, shares with us a little bit about her wonderful wedding invitation company Sijara Designs, and how she's finding lockdown! “Life in lockdown has hit our business hard, all weddings have either been cancelled or postponed. All our customer’s unfinished invites sit in boxes in a corner of our studio waiting to get the go ahead to complete.
"Our wedding stationery business started around 2008, when I decided I wanted to try something different from the sewing business I had while bringing up my three kids," shares Parvi. "The aim was to offer bespoke handmade wedding stationery for discerning couples looking for something a little special. We found there was a gap in the market for couples looking for invites with religious symbols and wordings for couples having mixed marriages, multicultural and fusion weddings. Asian and mixed marriages are huge and the response we got from the start was overwhelming. We have a regular customer base and many customers come to us from word of mouth.
"We try to create new lines every six months although we tend to go with the flow and see what new trends and styles are around. We have invites that were designed back in 2008 which are still popular today, our best selling design is from our laser cut collection, these have been popular for the last two years.
"We have been keeping fairly busy regardless of our wedding stationery business at a stop. Our studio is now used for an organisation called Brum Scrubs who are an organisation of local volunteers making scrubs, scrub bags and head guards for the NHS. I am leading a team of 10 ladies in my local area and altogether have eight teams covering the whole of South Birmingham with total of 100+ sewers. All the Quality Checks are done from my business home studio and all materials given to sewers are sorted and distributed by one allocated driver.
"This is not something I ever thought I'd be doing in April, it's usually the busiest season for weddings but for now this is how we are filling our time, keeping busy and trying to do all we can to help the NHS during this difficult time."
Parvi is proud that Sijara Designs is winners of three awards for best wedding stationery.
