Last year eBay.co.uk turned 18. To celebrate its coming of age, the online marketplace has released its second annual UK Retail Report – a unique insight into how we shop.
With 23 million Brits visiting eBay every month, the online marketplace has revealed 18 top search trends which show what the nation really coveted. Whether it's falling back in love with vinyl, seeking out fidget spinners, getting inspired by Glasto or taking action when there is a biscuit shortage, www.ebay.co.uk revealed the answered.
The most interesting result for us was that back to school shopping isn't just for the kiddos. Savvy parents got an early start on uniform shopping with a search spike in June 2017, and an overall peak on 21st August. 76% of these searches were on mobile, with on-the-go families prepping for the new school year all while still enjoying their summer holidays . This includes revealing 12th June as the most popular day to search for a wedding guest outfit – the summer's biggest dilemma!
It also revealed that The littlest royals have big buying power. Princess Charlotte continues to influence the shopping habits of parents across the country as we race to copycat her cute style, with searches for Princess Charlotte increasing tenfold in a massive spike on 2nd May 2017, her birthday.
Older brother, Prince George also continues to inspire the nation with his classic outfits – with searches for 'Prince George' increasing by 30% on his birthday compared to the week before. Demand for his characteristic 'Peter Pan shirt' also soared the day after his fourth birthday, as he captured the public eye during the Royal Tour of Germany.
It will be interesting to see if this changes with another royal birth and a royal wedding this year.
