A wedding celebrant is someone who creates your personal wedding ceremony and afficiates on your wedding day at your chosen wedding venue whenever that may be,
however there is still a requirement to give notice and do your declarations via your registration office for your wedding to be legally recognised.
Neil Dutta at Angelic Diamonds, a UK wedding jewellery specialist, explores why humanist weddings have seen an increase in popularity in recent years. With official guidance looking to change in the not too distant future, giving celebrants more legal power to actually marry couples - removing the need for a pre- or post-blessing registry office date - here at County Wedding Magazine HQ we think this is a trend that will continue to soar.

Margaret Mulholland, a celebrant based in Staffordshire, is offering one lucky reader her services, worth £650, for free. We spoke to Margaret to find out more about her: "I have a background in drama and education, and am an accomplished public speaker. I've had a varied career to date – everything from counselling and acting to teaching and management but this is the first time I really feel that I have found my niche. I was still wondering what I was going to be when I was in my 50s, and now at long last, I know! I'm a lover of life and a fosterer of hedgehogs and a curious vegan with a quirky worldview. I love to create and deliver joyful ceremonies for all of life's key events. Whether it's saying goodbye to a loved one, welcoming a new life into your family or an affirmation of love, I will write something unique, just for you.

As an industry first, these global awards are set to recognise those delivering excellence as nominated by fellow celebrants, industry suppliers, couples and families. The founder of TCIA and The Celebrant Directory, Jennifer Claire Constant, tells us: "I'm so excited to finally launch these awards to shout loudly about our fantastic celebrant community and really recognise the talent we have. The past year has shown how integral celebrants are within the funeral and wedding industry, working and supporting families through life-changing events. I'm proud of how our members have come together and made a difference in times of such hardship."

I believe that the number of guests allowed at weddings will only be increased over the coming months. In response to the changing face of weddings over the past year and the ongoing situation, I've pivoted my business. As a nature lover and a big fan of getting outside every day, I've decided to focus on doing what I love: creating and officiating ceremonies and spending more time in the great outdoors. This led to me teaming up with wonderful wedding photographer, John the Photographer to create an Elopement Wedding Package.

Six couples are taking their case to the High Court on 7-8 July to take a landmark challenge over the legal recognition of humanist marriages; their case is being supported by humanist celebrants. Siân Jackson a celebrant, based in Neath, Wales commented, "Humanist ceremonies bring meaning, personality and depth to a non-religious ceremony in a way which is just not possible within the construct of a civil ceremony. Why shouldn't non-religious couples have the right to celebrate their union in a way that is significant to them, as religious couples do?"
